Thailand's tourism

Besides, the ministry plans to use the budget of 1 billion baht (33.4 million U.S. dollars), left over from the rehabilitation funds for entrepreneurs who have been affected by the 2008's airport closures, to help tourism operators affected by the recent devastating flood.

There are currently 28 provinces in eastern, northeastern and eastern parts of Thailand submerged under floodwaters after monsoon causing widespread downpours and flash flood hit the country on Oct. 10. So far 38 lives were claimed by the heavy flooding and at least 2,488,594 people suffered.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports issued an assessment report on flooding impact on Sunday saying it costs at least 50 million baht (1.67 million U.S. dollars) loss in tourism revenue.

The initial assessment of 50 million baht, which has not yet included the costs of repairs for the damaged infrastructure, could reach 200 million baht (6.7 million U.S. dollars) next week. Most Thai tourists have canceled practically all their bookings in severely flood-stricken Nakorn Ratchasima, Lopburi, and Ayutthaya provinces, the ministry reported.

The ministry said rehabilitation will begin right after water levels recede in order to restore tourist sites that are in ruins from floods. law the huieow huide
